Use This Curriculum With Weekly Lessons

School week- Monday thru Thursday.

Before Week Begins: Go to Library and get Book List (I just search the online catelog from local library and find books for the topics we are learning about.) The books I have chosen can usually (but not always) be substituted for another of the same topic. Mainly, I just want to have literature to reinforce the topic as often as possible.

Start Each Day:
Start with a welcoming song, poem or activity. If possible I have something related to the day's topic.
Check the weather. Record it with this weather chart. (or make your own!)
Sometimes I might review a previous lesson if necessary.
Teach ASL sign of the day. (I use http://www.signingsavvy.com/)

Lesson for the Day:
What I have included in the daily lesson plans is just the very basics. We start from there and build on it. Sometimes the child interests will spark an idea and change the course, and that's ok. Follow it. Sometimes we might have a game, workbook or craft that goes along with the lesson and we will supplement with that. I like to leave room for impulsive creativity.

End each day:
Review important things to remember from the lesson.
Review all vocabulary words (flash cards).
Review sign for the day and perhaps several previous signs. If you've learned enough, try making simple phrases with signs.
Every couple days, we include some sort of physical activity. (Game, kick a ball back and forth, run around, dance, jump, duck-duck-goose, etc)

Mondays- Language Arts:
Weekly Letter(s)- (teach child to recognize letter, know it's sound, write it's shape, recognize words that start with that letter) We use Alphabet magnets (stick them to a small cookie sheet) and also refer to the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.
Reading Vocab- Choose a familiar word. (perhaps related to the chosen book, letter, or ASL sign) Show child what it looks and sounds like. Discuss the letters in the word. Make flashcard.
Literature- choose a book to read and discuss. Read several other books for fun story time.
Craft- do some craft that goes along with either the letter or book.

Tuesdays- Science
Topic- Choose anything science related that might interest child. (an animal or plant, how something works, geology, space, physics, etc)
Read- Find a book or encylopedia that discusses the topic, if possible. Or just explain in your own words.
Activity- might include demonstration of principle, a craft, or exploration of subject.

Wednesdays- Math
Numbers- counting, adding/subtracting, comparing, etc. (I also use magnetic numbers on a cookie sheet. The set I got (at Dollar Tree!) came with a plus, minus and equals sign, so we often build math problems together.
Activity- find something fun to count, compare, etc. Or do a craft.

Thursdays- Social Studies/ Other
Social Studies- study a place, certain people (indians, eskimos), historical event, life in general, etc.
and/or
Other- holidays, day's of week, cooking, fun, anything.
Craft/ Activity- anything fun related to chosen topic.
