These lessons have been created for my 4 year old son. I plan to continue creating lessons as he grows from grade to grade and also use these same plans for my other children as they become schooling age.
My main focus is on literature. I want my children to develop the practice of searching through books to find answers to their questions. For example, I ask my son what he wants to learn about. He tells me Whales, so together we search the library for books, encyclopedias and videos about Whales.
My second focus is to incorporate hands-on activities with each lesson. This may include a craft, game, demonstration or any other type of activity to reinforce the lesson.
Lastly, we definately focus on fun. Because this is just preschool, I don't want it to get too serious. I want him to love learning and not discourage him from the idea of it. It is also very important for me to choose topics that are interesting to my son. Many times, I let him choose what he wants to learn about.
